We heard yesterday of the passing of Martin King, and we offer our condolences to his wife Jill and their immediate family, as well as Martin's brother Andrew, and all other members of the King family. Although this is a very sad time especially for Jill, the family, and Martin's wonderful friends, there is comfort to be drawn from the fact that Martin will not be suffering anymore. I will say that Martin's closest friends supported him wonderfully well during his final years, taking him on bike rides, walks, bringing him to places like the football club and giving that most precious gift to him, their time. Tim Bonnett, Keith Crawford, Phil Haylock and others, you have shown great friendship to Martin and Jill over the years, and that is just so real.
I have known Kingo since we were children, but it is through football that I really knew him, as he was a founder member of the SAFEPAC team back in the early 1970s. Even then his defensive talent stood out, and of course Martin went on to be an integral part of Mildenhall Town's rise from the Cambs League into the Eastern Counties League, and through our early seasons in that league. He is a true Mildenhall Town legend. Now I would say he will be playing again with that other legendary Martin on that pitch in heaven.
Go in peace Martin.
