Match report vs Walthamstow

Walthamstow 0-2 Mildenhall Town

12/10/24 3pm kickoff

Attendance: 492

Goals: Ben Nolan 45+5’ (Mildenhall Town), Ben Nolan 48’ (Mildenhall Town)Mildenhall started the game extremely well with Ben Nolan finally getting played up front rather than at right back and despite Walthamstow being 9th in the league they weren’t playing like a team that high up in the table. Mildenhall were going forward a lot of the first half and the majority of the football was being played in Walthamstow’s half. However Walthamstow did have a few chances going forward but goalkeeper Pope was quick to make sure nothing came of them. One of Mildenhall’s chances came early in the game, with the ball coming down the wing before being passed to a striker who was just caught offside, but if not would have been a certain goal. Mildenhall were outstanding in the final third and the hard work finally paid off with Nolan getting the first goal of the game in the 45+5th minute. He got to the near post and beat the keeper to get the ball back of the net.

The second half kicked off with Mildenhall the better team again, and they didn’t have to wait long for the second goal. Nolan scored again in the 48th minute with a similar goal to his one in the first half, again beating the keeper at the near post to bag another one. At this point Walthamstow were behind 2-0 and they didn’t look like scoring throughout the half. Mildenhall were in complete control of the game and even with Walthamstow going forward the defence were brilliant in making sure they couldn’t get one back. Despite Walthamsow’s efforts they were quite sloppy going forward and couldn’t get a goal the whole of the game. Mildenhall deservedly won the game 2-0 thanks to a great team effort.

The whole Mildenhall team played great and like a team who were in the top half of the table. This game proves that Nolan’s best position is up front rather than at the back. This is Mildenhall’s first win in 5 and will hopefully bring them some momentum for their upcoming games.
