Felixstowe and Mildenhall meet in the second round of the Suffolk County Cup. This is the first round both teams enter the competition. Felixstowe have had a great start to the season, having narrowingly missed out on promotion last season, winning 4 of their league games and into the 3rd qualifying round of the FA trophy. Mildenhall however have had a slower start to the season, winning 2 and drawing 1 league games and out of the fa cup and fa trophy.
The first half was very equal for both teams, although Felixstowe dominated possession due to their home advantage. Felixstowe could have had a penalty early on, as one of their players went down with the ball in the box but this was dismissed and nothing came of it. Neither team had many chances on goal, but out of the few chances they had Felixstowe’s attempts on goal were better. Mildenhall played well when going forward however there was no one for them to pass to while in/around the box. Felixstowe scored in the 40th minute with a shot at a tight angle into the corner of the net, scored by Joshua Mayhew. The teams went in at half time with the score 1:0 to Felixstowe.
The second half kicked off and Felixstowe were instantly the stronger team with multiple high quality chances with one coming in the 47th minute however this was ruled offside. Felixstowe scored their second in the 53rd minute from a great free kick straight through the defence and into the back of the net, scored by Cameron Forde-Brown. Felixstowe scored their third in the 57th minute by Charlie Warren who dribbled with the ball in the box past the defenders and shot into the corner of the goal. Felixstowe were very fast around the box and on the counter attack but Mildenhall were good at intercepting the ball from them. Mildenhall weren’t threatening enough in the box and their best parts of play were at the back and on the wings; they had a few chances but often took too long to think about it and Felixstowe’s defence were quick to get them away. Felixstowe scored again in the 92nd minute to get their 4th goal of the night, Samuel ford scored this when one on one with the keeper and chipped it over him to get it into the back of the net.
