I think this might be my last notes for you and I can't say it has been enjoyable, although I have managed to learn a bit about football. I am not in the best of health at the moment as I have had a touch of cellulitis again, which just throws everything else out for me. As you may or may not know, I was in hospital for 11 days last winter with cellulitis, which although there were people in there a lot worse than me, half of them are probably departed this earth now, it wasn't very pleasant, although at least Bill came to visit me every night bar one, or maybe he just came for his tea in the hospital's Time Out canteen? Anyway, I can recognise the early symptoms for what they are, and am able to get some medicine to fight the infection before it can take too strong a hold. We all have problems and we all have to deal with them somehow. A problem shared is a problem halved so the saying goes, well I have been helping so many people with problems the last few years, that I think it has probably set myself back sometimes, but that's the way it is.
Today we welcome new visitors, CONCORD RANGERS, to the Riverside. Although not obvious from their name, Concord Rangers, The 'Beach Boys' come from Canvey Island, and are named after Concord Beach. Formed in 1967 as a boys team, they have had a very successful existence as a senior team, having gained promotions through the grades reaching Step 2 status in 2013, spending 9 seasons in the National League South before being relegated back to the Isthmian League in 2013, and then back to the Isthmian League D1 North last season. No wonder we have never played them before, with that illustrious record.
I am sure that today's game will be exciting for the spectators, and it is heartening to see Mildenhall secure two wins in the last week to give us something to build on. Our last foray in the Isthmian league was interesting, tough most of the time, and eventually ended in failure as we were relegated after two tough seasons. Its still going to be tough, and lets face it, who wants it to be easy. This is about facing challenges, dealing with them together, as a team, on and off the field, and if we apply ourselves to this, we'll be fine. I think Bill will be doing his own notes from now on, so hopefully, this is my last time at the keyboard for a while, so thank you and I'll see you again some time.Â
