Chariman's Notes

Mildenhall Town FC v Wroxham FC

Saturday 5th October 2024 3pm

Isthmian League - North Division

Well I am back again now. I would like firstly to say thank you to Mrs Flynn, Charlene, my long suffering wife of 36 years, for standing in for me whilst I was banned from doing any programme notes. Charlene's notes were well received I hope, and gave a little insight on the things she has to put up with from me, due to my behaviour (drinking) whilst at the football club. I cannot deny that I do enjoy a few convivial sherbets with the Mildenhall football family. I have a ridiculously stressful that comes with the territory of running a business that keeps 80 people employed in our town. The football club is even more stressful though, as I so much want it to work. We all want it to work. It is the same for most grassroots clubs to be honest. Yes, so after the match on Saturday, it to me is only reasonable to have a few unwinders. The company is good, and usually the atmosphere is great. What else would I do when my old mate Keith Mosdal, former Mildenhall goalkeeper, comes down to see me and his old freinds?  I know it is not nice for Charlene when I come home and fall asleep within half an hour though. Drinking with friends is fun, its normal human behaviour, and I am going to change the subject.I am mindful that I have to be very careful over what I say going forward. I was given a six match ban for the notes I wrote for the Hadleigh programme last season, and then was given an additional six matches as it was less than five years since (4 years and 9 months) the previous conviction. Today we welcome our old friends from the Broads, Wroxham, known as the Yachtsmen, for obvious reasons. This is their first visit to the Riverside stadium since February 2022, where they thumped us 5-0, a game in which Ryan Curtis scored a hat trick, and Matt Hayden bagged brace. Incidentally booked for Mildenhall that afternoon was Phil Weavers and we had on the bench Ethan Mayhew, I wonder what happened to him, I always thought he was decent.  Wroxham gained promotion that season (we were 3rd), and since the the Yacthsmen have had two seasons in the Isthmian North finishing 10th in 2022/3 and 12th last season. They will be right up for this game today to gain some precious points, I am sure. That is the thing about this league, there is no easy opposition. It is relentless. We have 7 points now from 7 games, which on the face of it, is a steady start, but every game has been a battle, and the one thing I know is that at this level, mistakes are usually punished. We have a long season ahead of us still, and there will ups and downs, as there always is in football. This is all part of the story, the long journey. The only position that matters is that at the end of April 2025, and there will be an awful lot of excitment, joy and despair between now and thenKeep the faith. This level of football is probably the best to be involved in. You are involved you see. You can talk to players, the manager, the chairman, the oppositon players , officials and supporters, sometimes event the referee, as long as you are not abusive, disrespectful, that is absolutely fine. Its all one big family, and we all share the same experiences. I hope I haven't overstepped the mark this week, so thank you for coming to the match, come again. look at the website, the X, the Facebook page, join in. Let us know what you think, what you want (within reason as money is always in short supply) and we can work to achieve these things. My only want is to stay up in this league, which I am sure we can achieve.
