Chairman's Notes - vs Heybridge Swifts

Today we welcome Heybridge Swifts to the Riverside Theatre of Dreams, for another League encounter. It has been a few years since their last visit, October 2018 actually where Swifts came out on top 4-3.  Just to jog foggy memories, our side that day was Blake Sheelshock Horton, David Cooper, Aaron Smith, Luke Butcher, Tommy Boxer, James Seymour, Manny Osei-Owusu, Lee Watkins (who?), Tom Debenham, Jarid Robson and Evans Kouassi. Subs were John Sands, Ben Nolan, J Walker (?), Andrew Tayaca and Kaine Manels.  I am sure we remember most of those, and it is nice to recall Manny Osei-Owusu who is likely to be back today, for Heybridge. Welcome back Manny. Anyway, its nice to reminisce, even a season that went from bad to worse for us, but five years on,( it seems a lot longer to me), we are back facing the Swifts again. They come here in decent form and will provide us with a stern test.

Welcome to the officials, players and supporters from Heybridge, and I hope you have a memorable day in Mildenhall again.

After our weather enforced mini break last week, we are now entering a very busy period of football, that will have a significant effect on our season. We will have played Gorleston on Wednesday, result unknown at the time of writing, and then we play Heybridge(today), Sporting Bengal, Bury, Grays, Cambridge City and Newmarket in the next 3 weeks, which will stretch Phil's playing resources for sure, but after this hectic period, we shall see exactly where we are going into the second half of this season. Please come and support the team over this period, the lads appreciate, and of course we appreciate it.

Last weeks call off was the first for quite a long time, but it would have taken a Herculean effort plus a great deal of faith to get that match on, and as it continued to rain for the rest of the day and well into Sunday, it would have been futile.

This Sunday afternoon, we are having the Mildenhall Youth's Christmas party at the club. The Youth Section is really moving forward,  which is testament to the leadership of Trevor Bennett, who came to us to run last season's U18s, and has ended up heading up the whole youth section,  ably assisted by Claire Darkins, as well as the team of coaches who are doing a terrific job with the teams. I'm not saying come to the party though, as it will be packed already, but if you get a chance, go down and watch some of the youth games, they are really decent.

I am not going to add much more for today, I feel that after last season's ban for going off message, I must avoid talking about rainbow laces, young adult men playing in girls football, and other such topics that are deemed off piste.

We have got some great games coming up, especially Boxing Day's home derby against Bury Town, and then the early January fixture against the jockeys. There will be a great atmosphere at both games, so please, don't think about it, just come down and see for yourself how exciting this football is. If you are reading this, you already know, but then spread the word to those that don't.

Come on the Hall, lets do this today, we have a 4-3 defeat to avenge.
