Here we are now well into the second half of the season already. We have played 25 out of 42 league matches meaning (assuming we have played Gorleston this Wednesday) we have 17 left in 15 weeks. Today we entertain Brentwood Town and welcome their players, staff, officials and of course their supporters. Brentwood beat us 6-0 on their last visit to the Hall in early 2019, a match that has gone down in history, which ended with the resignation of our previous chairman, our goalkeeper traumatised in the clubhouse after the match having even conceded a goal from the opposition keeper, and within 5 days, the resignation of our team manager. We brought in Ricky Cornish to keep a team together and complete a memorable (for all the wrong reasons) season that culminated in relegation. That's what football is though, ups and downs, highs and lows, unless of course you support Tottenham when it is just unswerving controlled mediocrity, or Liverpool, where the football is almost always success.
Brentwood are having a very good season, currently sitting in 3rd place, behind the two pace setters, Bury and Felixstowe, and looking a good bet for the playoffs this season at least. This should be a really decent contest as we are now six matches unbeaten ourselves (not including Gorleston as this is unknown at time of writing).
We have already surpassed the total of 25 points accumulated in that 2018/19 season and with the fine squad assembled by Phil and Lloyd, we should add plenty more before the final table is assembled. We have added the very decent Tom Thurlbourne to the squad after he was released by Bury Town, the third member of that family to play for Mildenhall in recent years.
One thing that is very noticeable in this league , is the quality of the grounds that we visit. We recently visited Coles Park in Haringey where the crowd of 410 provided a great atmosphere for us and the players. These are proper places, proper grounds, and I would encourage anybody to take the plunge and follow the Hall on some of the away fixtures coming up. Most of the clubs are very welcoming and the supporters tend to be pretty friendly too.
Lets just put the chaos that is swirling round this crazy country for a couple of hours and enjoy the wonderful experience that is non league (a ridiculous term as we are in a league) football. It has everything really, and you are part of it, we all are. Enjoy it, embrace it, and spread the word. It is important.
