Have a read of the chairman’s notes ahead of tomorrows game.
Today is National Non League day, where the football world allows the non league clubs the opportunity to showcase whats on offer in the lower leagues, the non league leagues, which is a paradox if ever I heard one. We all pkay in leagues, so why is it referred to as non league football?
And what a fixture we have, with the visit of the incredible Grays Athletic? Why incredible? Grays have basically been playing without a home to call there own since 2010, after their ground went for development. Currently sharing with Tilbury, it is a feat of huge fortitude in remaing competitive for 15 years, with the hope of their own home again becoming a reality.
What a match this is today, with Mildenhall on 36 points and Grays on 38, both clubs eyeing 3 points today in their quest for survival. The stakes could not be higher.
This season has been very difficult for me personally. I have been a little off it myself due to personal reasons, and to be honest, I have not really been as committed as I have in previous seasons. However, the last few weeks have rekindled the fire, and now I see the whole season so far, as a lead up to these last 6 matches, that constitute a good old fashioned battle against the drop. I know we are good enough to stay up, but it is down to the team now, not me, not Phil, but the players. It really is down to them to secure safety for the club.
Its no secret that Phil is finishing at the end of this season, more on him another day, and I do not want the end of season night to be akin to a wake. There have been some rumours that the club might wish to take a drop, but that is just not on my agenda. We have worked very hard making this a step 4 club, and a second drop back to step 5 would be, im my opinion, a real step backwards. This is a good league with terrific football. Its not perfect by a long way, and some of the stuff we have to take on board is in my opinion, ridiculous, but all in all, this is proper football, for real people.
So come on lads, lets enter the final furlong positively, and bring it home for all of us.
Bill Flynn
Chairman.
