Chairman’s Notes

Have a read of the Chairman’s notes ahead of our home clash with Takeley tomorrow

Today we welcome league newcomers, Takeley FC to the Riverside Stadium, for the first in their (and ours) history. Takeley had been long standing members of the Essex Senior League, before securing the title last season, and thus gaining promotion into the Isthmian League D1 North, along with Stanway Rovers.

Takeley have had a steady start in their new division, so far gaining 5 points from 8 matches, their sole win and 3-1 victory away at Lowestoft. Like us, they have not scored many, but they have also not conceded many either. I expect them to be tough opposition, and any points won today will be hard fought.

We have had an up down start to the season ourselves, and we come here off the back of an excellent 1-0 away victory at Stanway last weekend, to avenge the 3-0 drubbing inflicted upon us the previous Saturday. It was a very good performance, showing resilience as well as opportunism, and we fully deserved the three points. The only goal of the match was a real beauty, Sharman guiding the ball to Ben Nolan on the left, the Ginger Messi then proceeded to send over a perfect cross for Swift , who made no mistake meeting the cross perfectly, heading back across goal and into the net.

Unfortunately, we had nobody to take the fun bus last Saturday, but those of us who did travel witnessed a terrific win from the team, giving us 9 points from 7. That illustrates the fact that a win is as good as 3 draws!

We have recently seen the departure of fans favourite Jarid Robson to his home town club Haverhill Rovers. I would like to thank Jarid for his efforts for Mildenhall Town over the years. He has been our leading goalscorer on each of the last two seasons, and will be sorely missed. However, thats football, and Jarid and his family will always be welcome here at the Hall.

As my access to my PC is restricted at the moment, I am doing this on my phone, so it just seems a little odd.

We have recently installed a 'screen' at the ground, which is exciting. It is perhaps unique at step 4, who knows?

I will bring more content as the season progresses, and I get myself back in the groove, but at the moment, I am a little overwhelmed by things, and needing to get things back on track.

Let's get behind the team, and hopefully secure 3 more valuable points in our quest to secure our position in this league. Enjoy the game, enjoy the banter, this is real football for real people.
